Biography

SYNPHYSICA is an art collective founded in 2018 by Chiaochi Chou (TW) and Youyang Hu (CN). Their practice integrates bio-hybrid media with large-scale installations. From the outset of their collaboration, they have drawn upon their distinct cultural narratives to create immersive experiences powered by biological signals from diverse organisms—exploring the intricate entanglement between humans and the natural world. Their work spans from indoor exhibition spaces to natural environments, employing sensors for detection, analysis, and representation—not limited to human perception, but reflecting habitats co-constructed by living and non-living entities.
Their artworks have been showcased at internationally renowned venues, including multiple exhibitions at the Ars Electronica Festival, the Asia Culture Center, the ETH AI Center, the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, and the National Museum of Natural Science. Their academic research has been presented at leading conferences and journals, including Leonardo, CHI, SIGGRAPH, ACM Multimedia, SIGGRAPH Asia, IASDR, and ISEA. Their work is also included in esteemed collections, including those of Columbia University’s E3B Program and the Rockefeller Foundation’s Asian Cultural Council.
